*Cue Circus Theme Music*
I tell ya, corporations are weird and funny. (Though, not funny 'ha-ha')
There was message waiting for me this morning on my voicemail. It was my boss saying to come see him immediately. He "had a disturbing message from HR."
*cue ominous music*
*montage a slow walk upstairs, lots of gloom: flickering lights and visual horror cues*
Anyway, I got to my bosses office and mistook his efforts to close the door behind me as a handshake. We shared 'The Most Awkward Handshake.'
Apparently he got a call from the HR troll. (Whose name phonetically looks like fucker, but it is only pronounced that way under your breath.) I was hired for a 6 month (max) internship, which was up 2 months ago. They let it slide because I was filling in for an unstaffed role. But today has to be my last day because that role will be filled on Monday.
*horror music sting, transition slowly to circus theme*
I can imagine, in my head, the awkward pause on the phone as he processed this information. The incredulous "Wait. What?" as he tried to understand and place meaning of her words in context. The timing of this declaration, with its utter lack of warning, precludes any meaningful transition.
The end result of this conversation was a brief stay of execution. 'You can have him come in next week for transition,' HR said, 'but not the whole week.'
So next week may be my last until August, when my second internship starts.
My boss plans on taking his case to the head of the department. He has plenty of work for me to do until the internship starts in August, and possibly afterwards. Assuming of course, he can jump through the proper hoops to get me rehired.
In the interim, it's likely I'll have a week or two of forced vacation.
Wait... isn't that unemployment?
*comedy sting*
*fade to black*

Yeesh! I hope the sequel has a happier ending. Best of luck and I hope you can enjoy your 'vacation'.
HR are a bunch of useless idiots, I should know since I work in HR.
Hmmm... maybe I should look into a career change?!?!
