Back to the Promised Land
Going back to Ubuntu. Yes, back. When I got a new laptop a few months ago, I rolled on with XP because, well it was easy. Lately, I found myself wondering why.
There's a few hold out programs, but they're rapidly becoming lessing interesting and important. And this time, I have an ace up my sleeve. I'm not forced into the decision, and I know enough to go with a dual boot set up. The Ubuntu live CD makes it pretty easy.
And so, two demons now compete for my attention on my laptop.
I just spent about 3 hours getting dual monitors to work. It was a little troublesome last time, both to set up, and to use. But this time, none of the usual tricks worked.
But google is your friend. (Well, the part that doesn't assimilate your personal data.)
Googling stuff, and then following that lead, and then googling that lead... Lead me to the right information. And that worked like a champ. Hooray for xrandr! Hooray for the thinkwiki that helped me figure out xrandr and dual monitors on Ubuntu.
Anyway. Moving on. More as it develops.
