right side up in an up side down world

went to the family homestead this weekend.  got some time to curl up with heather.  spent some time with the parents, and hopefully they're off my ass.  replaced the wheel bearing i had previously replaced in december.  last time i buy a cheap ass chinese bearing.  as i was packing up, chris called me, he and mel had locked themselves out of their house.  and since my other sister kristeen, her hubby bob, and my nephew alex we with them...  it was a serious situation.  so they WAITED the THREE and a HALF HOURS until i could get there and let them in.  but i got dinner out of it.  and gas money.  unfortunately, the time worked out such that i had to do my OC meeting at an arby's halfway between indy and lafayette.  (i needed my laptop, and there were a few weak signal points still on the way.)  But now Celeste is on my OC!!!! I love it, she's going to turn crazy, into insane!.. and shit is going to get done.  *S*

Mike, on his quest to pack up his apartment... gave me his old acoustic guitar!.. so i've been fooling around with that.  I know three chords.  more to follow i'm sure.  lol.

heather, keep suprising me.  i love it.

Krystal, hope those tunisians survive having you there.  best of luck.  and you're welcome in indy or wherever i am ANYTIME.  when we meet, we can make out, or get married, or just raise hell... i'll be glad to help you put a picture of your titties on your weblog.  but until then... KEEP BLOGGING, or start mass mailing.  safe travels and sweet dreams...

Poor NYC... Poor Me...

So i just finished my second drunk dial from Becky and Krystal.  Damn... NYC just don't KNOW!  Serious trouble, and I'm not there to see it.  I hope to get the videotape of them making out, and that NYC survives them going out again tomorrow.

Krystal I hope you really do love me, or want to marry me, or want to do naughty naughty things all night long.  whichever works... And if you want to stop in Indiana when you come back from Tunisia, I'll play the nice guy till I get you DRUNK!  LoL  And no... I don't love Heather, but I do really like her.  Until one of you have me chained to an alter that is... ;)

Whatever.  You girls rock.  I totally miss you both (even though I've never met Krystal).  I wish I could be there... but since i'm not, make some trouble for me.

Back to my hammock to dream of naught naughty things under the stars.

Thoughts on romance

Somewhat related... I've just had a realization about why there are SO MANY DATING SHOWS on TV. In previous generations, your world was small. In our generation, our world is pretty large. Currently we encounter so many people, our choices for a mate are far more extensive. Previously, you only had to worry if your true love was around the corner, or in the next town. Personally, I sometimes wonder which country she's going to be from. And so, we have a lot of shows which work to bring diverse people together.

I think as a generation, we're more afraid we're not going to meet our true love than previous generations. And so... we're a little more risky, a little more fascinated with love stories, a little more... promiscuous as we try to find something that seems easier for previous generations. it's a fear that grows as we see failed more maraiges and relationships around us.

Discrimination in AIESEC

They're all gone. Or will be, by the time you read this. Corinne left in the early morning. I dropped Rev. Dana at the airport this afternoon. Jorge and family will leave for Kentucky tomorrow. Mike will be moving back to Michigan City this weekend.

As Dana and I were driving to the airport, we realized that there is something incredibly wrong with AIESEC. There's discrimination. BIG Discrimination.

Dana and I noted that, when a guy gets a title and some power in AIESEC, it usually means he's gonna get MORE ASS. (Mahbod?) So, our theory is that guys in AIESEC fool around with (or date) women who are the same rank, or lower. Conversely, girls in AIESEC fool around with (or date) men of the same rank, or higher.

As Dana said: "Why have a girl when you can have a Woman?!"

The realization came because of a story I shared about my first conference. It was Denver - NLS '98. I was sharing a good time with an AWESOME girl, yet got left behind once she saw Joe Fletcher in drag. It was the 'Dress Your P' contest, and as President of AIESEC United States, his team put him in drag. I lost, to FLETCH, in DRAG. Ouch. But, I console myself by saying, I was a youngin.

Personally, having stepped up through the ranks, I think I've benefited from the dualism. Though I also hope that for some girls, it was because of more than that. I wonder about a few, however. It's possible that I was just another guy until something came along to make me different. For others, I was just a sweet guy, and hopefully kinda cute. Or so I hope. I also know that there have been a few girls I've only lusted after because of their rank. Yet, there's been an equal number I've tried for, regardless of my peon-ship... ;)

So which sex is more shallow?

Personally, I feel kinda bad for all our wonderful National Staff ladies. Nobody told me they weren't getting any loving?.. Wait. They are. Aren't they? Or if they aren't, it should be dealt with. For a few of them... I'd help. ;) LoL!

So what do y'all think?

Culture!

Blogging from the welcome/culture prep session of our new Mexicano family!  Just gave them a tour around purdue's campus.  We looked at buildings, made a few jokes, looked at squirrels and bunnies, ate ice cream, played in fountains, etc... very fun

Now we're talking about AIESEC, culture and everything else...  a little slower with translation but maybe more meaningful... more later!..

Roll'n

This weekend marked the first Delphi trainees to come in.  Jorge arrived from Mexico on Sunday with his wife, and two daughters.  (cuties)  They were properly welcomed by Jeff, Andy, Brandi, Marc, Corinne, Matt, Aarryn, Rachel, Dana, and Myself.  Jorge and family will be working in Kentucky, so reception will be a bit light for them.

Other pictures can be found here.

Dana and Corinne have stuck around town to help with the reception.  Rachel hung around to avoid going home.  ;)  Aaryn hung around to get drunk.  Most interestingly, Dana & Corinne are now Reverends in the Universal Life Church.  It's possible they may have inspired me to get my ordination.  My biggest motivation is un-damning myself.

We'll be meeting up in a couple hours to do cultural prep and so forth...

Also, picture's of Mike's show on May 23rd are now up.  They are available here.

Also, added more things to the story page.  Read at your own risk.

Bread

TOM SMITH

AND HIS INCREDIBLE BREAD MACHINE

by R.W. Grant

  • This is a legend of success and plunder
  • And a man, Tom Smith, who squelched world hunger.
  • Now, Smith, an inventor, had specialized
  • In toys.  So, people were suprised
  • When they found that he instead
  • Of making toys, was BAKING BREAD!
  • The way to make bread he’d conceived
  • Cost less that people could believe.
  • And not just Make it!  This device
  • Could, in addition, wrap and slice!
  • The price per loaf, one loaf or many:
  • The minuscule sum of under a penny.
  • Can you imagine what this meant?
  • Can you imagine the consequent?
  • The first yet the world well fed!
  • And all because of Tom Smith’s bread.
  • A citation from the President
  • For Smith’s amazing bread.
  • This and other honors too
  • Were heaped upon his head.
  • But isn’t it a wondrous thing
  • How quickly fame is flown?
  • Smith, the hero of today -
  • Tomorrow, scarcely known.
  • Yes, the fickle years passed by;
  • Smith was a millionaire,
  • But Smith himself was now forgot -
  • Though bread was everywhere.
  • People, asked from where it came,
  • Would very seldom know.
  • They would simply eat and ask,
  • “Was it not always so?”
  • However, Smith cared not a bit,
  • For millions ate his bread,
  • And “Everything is fine,” thought he,
  • “I am rich and they are fed!”
  • Everything was fine, he thought?
  • He reckoned not with fate.
  • Note the sequence of events
  • Starting on the date
  • On which the business tax went up.
  • Then, to a slight extent,
  • The price on every loaf rose too:
  • Up to one full cent!
  • “What’s going on?” the public cried,
  • “He’s guilty of pure plunder.
  • He has no right to get so rich
  • On other people’s hunger!”
  • (A prize cartoon depicted Smith
  • With fat and drooping jowls
  • Snatching bread from hungry babes
  • Indifferent to their howls!)
  • Well, since the Public does come first,
  • It could not be denied
  • That in matters such as this,
  • The public must decide.
  • So, antitrust took a hand.
  • Of course, it was appalled
  • At what it found was going on.
  • The “bread trust” it was called.
  • Now this was getting serious.
  • So Smith felt that he must
  • Have a friendly interview
  • With the men of the antitrust.
  • So, with hat in hand, he went to them.
  • They’d surely been misled;
  • No rule of law had he defied.
  • But then their lawyer said:
  • “The rule of law, in complex times,
  • Has proved itself deficient.
  • We much prefer the rule of men!
  • It’s vastly more efficient.
  • Now, let me state the present rules,”
  • The lawyer then went on,
  • “These very simple guidelines
  • You can rely upon:
  • You’re gouging on you prices if
  • You charge more than the rest.
  • But it’s unfair competition
  • If you think you can charge less.
  • “A second point that we would make
  • To help avoid confusion:
  • Don’t try to charge the same amount:
  • That would be collusion!
  • You must compete.  But not too much,
  • For if you do, you see,
  • Then the market would be yours -
  • And that’s monopoly!”
  • Price too high?  Or price too low?
  • Now, which charge did they make?
  • Well, they weren’t loath to charging both
  • With Public Good at stake!
  • In fact, they went one better -
  • They charged “monopoly!”
  • No muss, no fuss, oh woe is us,
  • Egad, they charge all three!
  • “Five years in jail,”  the judge then said.
  • “You’re lucky it’s not worse.
  • Robber Barons must be taught
  • Society Comes First!”
  • Now, bread is baked by government.
  • And as might be expected,
  • Everything is well controlled;
  • The public well protected.
  • True, loaves cost a dollar each.
  • But our leaders do their best.
  • The selling price is half a cent.
  • (Taxes pay the rest!)

#1 Penis Package!

"I don't use the phrase, 'better than jesus' often, but..." -- Mike

LOL... so checking my Referers, i learned that somebody found me by searching for 'Penis Package.' Thinking of PPP or the Purdue Penis Package, i could see how i'd be indexed under that search. But where does my penis rate on the different search engines?

a look in the mirror is not enough, what makes you think you're not one of us?

nice little lyric from face to face to start off the blog...

anyway, the randomness that is my life...

  • was woken up at 1am last night by the police.  mom hadn't talked to me in a week.  decided to get my ''attention.'' whoah.  jittery for hours.  couldn't sleep.  in the words of jeff... "WHO DOES THAT?!"
  • slept on my hammock out on the deck a few times.  who knew the hum of airconditioners could be so peaceful?.. nice view of the stars though
  • alicia & steph were worried about me too.  whoops.  last time i forget my laptop and phone in a friend's car for a few days.
  • managed to miss a meeting on tuesday.
  • got a phone call in the office today from a girl who grew up in indiana, but goes to ASU.  but since she couldn't contact @ASU to find out about being an SN decided to call Purdue instead.  riight.  talked to her, and gave her the only ASU contacts i could find, sopan & Krystal's email addy's.  and if that doesn't work, she'll be an SN for Purdue... PBTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTH  ... ASU wouldn't want her, she sounded cute... ;)  'course i'll feel like a fool, if ASU was just calling to screw with me...
  • done some conference stuff today... blah blah blah
  • gonna schlep concrete for my brother in law on friday - help him finish the bathroom he's building.  i schlep real good.  i hope he doesn't have me do grout work.  i did it a few times while working for a construction contractor... and it sucks
  • ali from UT wants to vent about INS.  since Kait is my registration gal, and has the title of INS, he's going to take it out on her
  • rachel from Eau Claire is coming down on Saturday

My heart goes out for you Krystal. sorry things suck, but i'm glad you sound happier in your most recent entry.  you can add me to your list of people to call and talk to if you want.  i know how to listen real good.

HollaH from MC!

So... apparently i'm a huge geek.  Mike suprised me last night with an invitation to go to his home in Michigan City, Indiana.  Last minute thing at 1am... Cool... now listen carefully, cuz this is when i go supernerd.  I pack up my wireless network and accessories, and a few games.

Who brings this stuff with them?.. I do.  LoL so Mike, his brother Alex and I are going to be playing 3 person half life, warcraft III and jedi outcast... pure insanity.  i love it.

jedi outcast is why i haven't been blogging.  I got it a week ago tomorrow, and have been working really hard to beat it.  i'm damn close.  oh, had a final last thursday... it was tough to balance gaming, and studying.

i met Mike's friend jasmine last night... very cute, i can see why he's so smitten.  we let her swing in the hammock under the tiki torches while we cooked... jazz played in the back ground... took the table outside to eat, drink wine and light fireworks.  (I love you Katie!!!!!!  Those were so awesome!)

happy blogging, and live it up...

Giggly Funny?

i figure you guys would enjoy a different perspective from a latina from the desert:>  and if not, there's a world of other bloggers that have awesome perspectives and lives...let me tell you i know too much about people i've never met, but i like it...like Brian, never met him, but the recent weblog was giggly funny, that and i'm delusion from doing sooooo much...i love it...

Uh... right.  thanks for the love Krystal... of course now i'm wondering what else she knows about me... ;)  but... giggly funny?  n/m, you must have some delusions going on... =P

cooked my awesome tortellini soup for Mike tonight.  Comfort food, cuz he may have screwed up his second interview with a company... in the middle of that, got notice, paul is signing the hotel contract for Salt Lake City, Utah tomorrow morning!..  about frigging time...

while telling my oc, and starting my 'call everybody in the world, and yell it from the mountain tops' plan... Cindy calls and invites me down to indy go bowling with her, knapik and curtis (AJ's circle of friends),  Since Mike was down, we clean up and leave.  as we pull into the parking lot, we come to find that they were done bowling, and end up going to a nearby bar to talk.

there was that little bit of initial weirdness of dealing with somebody you used to love.. but we got over it well enough, we're still friends on some level.  i asked her if she found my weblog, but it wasn't her.  just PURE coincidence.  but if she finds it now... happy reading.  she seems to be doing well... just finished her masters, and is working to finish her Ph.D. IN MATHEMATICS... It always was a little intimidating dating somebody who's intelligence FAR outstripped my own.  though i appreciate that she never rubbed it in my face, or dumbed things down for me.

anyway, we talked as a group, and as individuals, and yatta yatta yatta... giggly funny?  still trying to figure that out.  but i appreciate your interest.  i've been meaning to reply to your email, just been a very lazy bum lately.   ooooh speaking of... Dima, thanks for the love, and i'll be replying to you very soon also...

Celeste, it was great to talk to you tonight too... thanks for understanding my pain, and giving me sooo much support.  glad you're working hard, and learning lots... hope you can come out for conference...

OK all, the land of sleep is calling my name... hope you found sweet dreams of your own...

happy blogging,

Googlery

So as i was getting home from the gym this afternoon, I recived an IM from an old girlfriend wishing me a belated birthday.  We parted amicably, and take a vague interest in each other's lives.  As we were chatting, I learned she was in Indy, and we talked briefly about meeting.  I suggested Yats, the cajun/creole place in Broadripple.

I just signed on and looked at my refers, and saw somebody found my weblog by searching for "Yats Broad Ripple."  go figure.

So, Cindy, if you're out there... Wave, and say ''hi'' to everybody.  ;)

Other Google weirdness... Mark Wukas emailed me today.  He was the editor of the book 'The Thing About Love is..." where i got Freyda Libman poem, 'Lady Moon.'  I can tell from the referers that he 'googled' himself, and found my blog.

Great Adventure

You are eighteen,

     or twenty-two,

     or thirty-five,

     or fifty or sixty,

     or whatever.

You have decided to get some further education.

You have decided that this can be best obtained, so far as you are concerned (and your finances)

     at your local community college,

     or a weekend seminar,

or an evening extension course from a nearby university,

     or a distant college,

     or by correspondence (home-study).

The only problem is:  you are not totally sure just what it is you want to study, or what courses you want to take.  You only know you want some more education.

Because:

     It's there.  Like Mount Everest.

And it's good for you.  Like vitamins.

So you're ready to go.

Off to the great adventure called Aimlessly Dipping into the Sea of Truth.

From The Three Boxes of life and how to get out of them

An introduction to life/work planning

by Richard N. Bolles

It feels like that sometimes... I'm changing focus again it seems.  I seem to be cataloging what i do less, and seem more concerned about what i think.  A gigantic list of my weekend activities, while nice for keeping memories, doesn't help me develop much.  I'm not really sure why those few who visit my blog do so, but I'm pretty sure it's not that.  Here's to boredom!

A big entry is coming about 'Plain Talk' by Ken Iverson.  It's huge, mostly because I'm quoting gigantic portions... But they're important because they sparked different thoughts.  hopefully soon, i'll be able to start on the books y'all have suggested.
