breathing space

soon, i will catch my breath. i had planned on using last week to get organized, plan and then attack a new life. children are not conducive to ANY plan like that. Lemme explain...

My sister, and her two sons, came to visit this week while her husband was traveling for work. My first nephew, Alex, is two and a half, and a real... joy?.. terror?.. something. The other nephew Sam is three months, and still getting used to this life and all it's troubles.

I'm convinced children consume the lives of the adults around them. I'm only the cool loving uncle, and yet, somehow I managed to get sucked into more tasks, games and movies than adequately afford from the time I needed to start a new life. Poof. We had some good times, and I definetely bonded with my nephew. Not easily brushed aside, these memories and moments that define character and colour reflections on the past. However, my character strives for a new outlet.

I need to surround myself with the things that motivate me, before my dreams slip through my fingers. These things were dancing so close before I came home. Being comfortable is not an effective method for creating change.

Why am i watching the blazers and warriors in spanish?.. i don't speak spanish, and i don't care about either team, and am not strongly interested in basketball... it's rare to see anything other than soccer on the spanish chanels, but that's no excuse.

Blink Powered Night Vision Contacts!

http://www.core77.com/challenge/humanpower/pages/8desc.htm

Pop-Sci Core77 Design Challenge/ HUMAN POWERED 10/20/03

Description of Design

Blink Powered Night Vision Contact Lenses

The blink powered night vision contact lenses allow a person to see clearly in low- light environments by enhancing ambient light up to 200 per cent.  These lenses use plasma technologies to eliminate the cumbersome and expensive image-intensification tubes used in convention night-vision goggles. The advantages of using the contact lenses above night-vision goggles are 1) full peripheral vision, 2) more comfortable interface, 3) a more cost-effective system, and 4) less disorientation with use.

Conventional night vision goggles use an image- intensification tube that amplifies low levels of light. Low levels of ambient light pass through a photocathode that converts the light photons to electrons, which are in turn amplified over a distance. The electrons, while maintaining their orientation, then collide with a phosphor screen where they are converted into visible light. This technology is similar to a conventional picture-tube television screen where an electron beam bombards a phosphor screen to produce a picture. The disadvantage to both these systems is that the electrons have to pass some distance to produce a picture- hence the long tube on most night-vision goggles and the long depth of conventional television sets.

The Night-Vision Contacts (NVC) uses a three-layered technology very similar to plasma screen televisions that allows for their thin design. To achieve the necessary electric charge to carry out the amplification of light a thin layer of neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) gel is applied to the outer eyelid.  NdFeB is the strongest rare earth magnet that exists today and provides the magnetic field necessary to produce an electic charge on the surface of the contact lens. When a person blinks, the NdFeB layer charges the ferro-magnetic surface of the contact lens that is now excited with charged particles. Ambient light photons and some infrared light photons collide with the charged surface that sends charged particles into the thin plasma layer of the contact lens. These charged particles and light photons collide with electrons within the plasma layer. The electrons, in the collision, are forced to a higher atomic orbit. The electrons quickly return to their natural orbit and in doing so release ultra-violet light photons. The UV photons then pass into a phosphor screen and are converted into visible light.

The night vision contact lenses hold a very powerful charge for a short period of time, but they are continuously recharged with every blink. Conventional night-vision goggles need an average of 5,000 volts of electricity provided by two AA batteries. Batteries lose their charge very quickly and the difficulties of changing those batteries in a low-light environment are obvious. The night-vision contact lenses remain charges and functioning at their optimal performance as long as their user keeps blinking. And because the night-vision contacts rest on the surface of the eyeball, there is no disorientation and no loss of peripheral vision.

hello aiesec Giessen,

We're missing a trainee here in SPlit. she comes from the US, her name is Allison, she has light brown curly hair and is really a cute and fun girl!

Have you maybe seen her? There is a reward here for anyone who offers us information that could leed to her. Please help!! :))  just kidding, of course.... I know you're taking good care of her - thank you for that! But you can't keep her, I'm sorry. We need her back!

All the best,

Kacha

Hi Kacha

I can give detailed information about Ally. Five Minutes ago she arrived in our Office after having a candle-light dinner with one of our employees also known as "The Ass", before that she beat two of us in Badminton, now she's planning to go to rock the Herzmas-Conference Party 2nite in Castle Hessenstein.

Untill now Ally matched with an south-african, a fin guy and two from slovakia, drunk 40 liters of beer and six bottles Jim Bean and crashed the furniture of two flats. If this is your Ally please send me a mail, so i can send her back because if she stays longer our whole LC will be crushed.

And of course i want the reward.

sincerely, Rolf

yep Rolf, that sounds like our Ally, I was just hoping she won't show you the bad side of her personality. I am really sorry for the inconvinience. I guess I have to tell the whole truth now: we recently found out that she is very seriously disturbed. She is mentally sick and potentially very dangerous. We suspect her of an attempted murder agains our mascot. so, my advice is that you try to get rid of her as soon as possible. Just put her on the next buss for Split, we have figured out a way to deal with this and my great-great grandma has some home-made medicine we can give her! But don't waste time - send her away as soon as possible, before she tries to kill your mascot too!!!!!

Last Dance, as the memory of the music fades

Wow.  Another conference is winding down, and it's time to put back together, all those loose ends made during the week.

That was a fun kind of sentence.  It makes sense, I swear.

I thought i was sick this morning, but am not so sure right now.

Looking forward to going to Columbia tomorrow.  Missouri.  Pam and I are going to hang out and transition the OCP role.  I could use some down time, and she could use the help getting started.  I can't remember if I visited Mizzou on one of my sister's college hunting tour, either way, it will be a far more enjoyable visit I bet.

Expect a list of quotes from the conference, sometime soon.

On another note, I met the most totally awesome woman yesterday.  Jennifer Kushell, author of 'Secrets of the Young & Successful,' spoke to our conference yesterday.  It's a little story that goes like...

Heather bought the book, and while reading it, went to http://www.youngandsuccessful.org/ and noticed that AIESEC is listed on their Resources page.  She told me, and then later lent me the book.  While reading the book, I realized that she would be an awesome speaker for the conference.  I told Jill, and it was soon worked out.  I explained that to everybody here, and when Jennifer told the delegation the story... She labeled Heather as my girlfriend.  So there goes that whole 'actively not dating' label.  I had to answer a whole bunch of questions because if it.  Some people felt they should have known I was dating someone, and labeled as 'actively not dating' I didn't really tell many people about her.  Very few people understand the situation, (including myself & Heather) but most can accept that not changing a good thing, is a brilliant idea.

Jennifer is an amazing person who's created a lot of success for herself, and is passionate about helping others achieve similar success.  She spoke about the similarities about all those who are young & successful.  Her book goes into greater detail about how to apply those things to yourself.  I spent a lot of time speaking with Jennifer and she has promised to give me some contacts to find out more about the event planning world.  Fucking Unbelievable!  I had her sign & dedicate Heather's book, and while looking at it, she noticed all the notes and highlighting we've done.  She picked my brain for a little while and pointed out several spots where I had made a note or marked an activity to go back to.  She said that some of them, had been large numbers of pages (one was a sentence that had originally been 20 pages.) cut from the book.  Hopefully, she's going to come out with a workbook that details some of the things she had previously cut, and gives you space to work on them...  I'm so impressed with her, and motivated to take control of my life.  I've got some serious opportunities ahead of me, and it's time to make things happen.

Another thing to note, is that while watching the Purdue game Mike Tomasello were talking about what he was doing, and about what I would eventually be doing.  He's offered to pass my name on, should I get him a resume soon.  And finally, before Sahil left, I approached him about the possiblity of using him as a reference should I ever apply to work on IC.  I think a former President of AIESEC International would be a great way to round out any list of refferals.

WHAT A CONFERENCE!

I'm so energized about my life right now, and it's an empowering feeling...

New Year

Wow, today is the start of a brand new year.  I have to keep checking the date on my computer to be absolutely sure that we're in a new year.  Bizarre.  The concept of a new year is foriegn at best, but certainly welcome.  I'm not writing my reflective end of year wrap up and hopeful new year editorial.  Not Yet.

It's still conference time here.  We celebrated the new year as a large group in formal dress attire.  It's my fourth winter conference held over new years, and it's always an Occaision.  We all get dressed up, and I've rented a tuxedo each time.  It's great to see everybody dressed up, there are definetely some people who suprise you and look amazing.

Anyway, yesterday and the night before were the worst I've ever had at an AIESEC conference.  I was woken up at 3am after having gone to bed at 2:30am.  The emergency was that one of our members was going to the hospital.  I got up, and ended up going to the hospital with him and Deven.  We stayed with him until he was well enough to be released and drove back to the hotel around 7am.

I stayed up and planned on addressing the staff about the situation at 8:30am.  But unfortunately, another situation was brought to my attention.  The new circumstances required my help through out the day and were not resolved until around 6 or 7pm.  The smart thing to do would have been to go to bed immediately.  However, New Year's Eve is full of stupidity.  I chose to celebrate with all my friends.  By the time I did go to bed at 2am, I had been awake for 42 hours. oi!

The good thing, is that i let things take care of themselves this morning and slept.  Till 11.  it was beautiful.

-------

Whoah, this is a blog entry which i have started, and have been forced to abandon it mmore times than can be counted.  Work sucks.  But conferences are cool.  I can't explain it right now, maybe some day.

More duty, more fun to come.
