i'm shocked at how loud this woman has been.  and how stupid.  she ordered a pizza for her kids while she is out... and read her credit card number loud enough that anybody in the cafe could have written it down.  incredible.  and stupid.

Naperville in news that I care about...

arsTechnica is reporting that talks between AT&T and Naperville about fiber optic service to homes has stalled. The telecom is trying to get into all your communication needs in a big way.

"Project Lightspeed will allow the telecom to offer integrated voice, data, and television service over a single pipe in wired areas."

"The sticking point? Naperville's insistence that the telecom offer its services throughout the city, instead of just within selected neighborhoods. AT&T says that's a no-go because of the expense."

"The counterargument is that AT&T only intends to serve relatively affluent areas with its fiber network, leaving thousands of households out in the cold. Illinois law supports Naperville's position, as it mandates that cable companies offer their services to all residents of a municipality, not just selected subdivisions; AT&T contends that it is not covered by the law, as it is a phone company with a TV offering."

U-Verse is AT&T’s fiber IPTV service. No matter how many set top boxes you have in your household AT&T limits the number of DVRs to just one. So, what hardcore countermeasure did they employ to lock down their users? They unplugged the hard drive! No. Really. You don’t even have to look at this article by Hack-A-Day reader [Chad Brantly]; just unscrew the the cover, plug the drive in, and you’re done.

Bon Voyage

We love you katie... we do.

That doesn't include all the videos. Maybe they'll get posted, maybe not.

All told, I'm keeping a bit less than 500 pictures and movies from the weekend. They were taken by who ever was holding my camera, omar's camera or katie's camera. Maybe we'll get some more from Barb, maybe not. I deleted omar's movie with her contact information; I'm leaving that particular intrigue to him.

Quick round-up of the weekend?.. Up to scottie's on thursday for cheese and drinks at jazz in the park, then a few bars (including the 'safehouse' a super cool spy bar). Then over to madison to hang with Omar while waiting for Kristi. We hit up a few bars and met the rights owner to the Fauerbach beer brand. Saw the capitol building and got on the road to Katie's.

We tracked our progress up to Katie's on my computer's GPS readout, noting the curious pattern that Kristi drove. Jeff and Brandi joined us late. In the morning we wandered around, dug up potatos, fooled around and got a tour of Westby, WI. Lunch was a total spread and afterwards was an Amish tour. Horseshoes and horsing around until dinner, and again until the fireworks show. We totally took over a townie bar - the local bowling alley. Snacks afterwards. In the morning we met the infamous donkey, and eventually got off our asses and got home. My tracklog looked like this.

Are any of the rest of you on Zooomr yet?.. Free 'pro' accounts to bloggers currently = 2GB of upload a month. I haven't even broken 5% yet. I'd like to add some people to my social circle, cuz that's cool 'n stuff.
