Welcome to...

Sargent Murphy

My new baby niece. Born today 02/27/07 at 14:20.
She weighs in at 6 pounds and lays a full 19 inches long.

I call her Sargent Murphy because she has not yet been officially named. Sargent Murphy is the name given to her by her big sister Norah many months ago. I couldn't tell you why. I just enjoy using it as her name.

Turning Tides...

Running through my head lately is an excerpt from a conversation with a psychologist. We were discussing depression in the context of seasons and how it fits with suicide. There is some link between cold/dark months with depression but not as much so with suicide.

Oddly enough, it's not until the weather starts to warm/brighten up that suicide rates raise. Counter-intuitively, they have to get better to committ suicide. Her reasoning was, that for the seasonals who've cycled through a few times, they'd rather not go through all that pain again.

Now, why was that running through my head?

Don't Let Leftovers Go to Waste
Feb 1, 2007 12:00 PM, Michael Bassett

Robert Kalt Left his job as meeting planner for Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, N.J., with a mission: He wanted to find a better way to dispose of all the extra food and goodies at the end of a meeting, rather than dumping them in the garbage. “The event industry has been historically a glut of excess when it comes to the social end of events,” he says.
Kalt's solution? Special E, a small, but growing, business he founded in mid-2006 that arranges for the collection of leftovers from meetings and events and donates them to people or organizations in need.

Writer's Block

In the most literal sense. Having trouble transforming developed ideas into papers for classes and blog entries.

Who's got hints on how overcome?

signs of life

If i were writing about outer space i might use the phrase 'intelligent life.' But i'm not, I'm writing about my life and thus the point is moot.

Life is crazy busy. Two jobs, both part time, totalling nearly 40 hours. Three classes for 2 competencies each = 6 different grades on my transcript & in my GPA at the end of the quarter.

When I have class I spend nearly 4 hours in transit over the entire day. The train is a nice commuter tool, because I don't have to sit in traffic, pay tolls, pay for parking, and I can do homework. But it doesn't save time for shit because it's slow (you have to stop and pick other people up) and runs on a pre-set schedule. You learn to adjust, and work with what you've got.

Anyway, I haven't posted/linked any pictures since halloween. This has been a few recent favorites.
